Golden-horned Lubber (Taeniopoda auricornis)
(Walker, 1870) |
Synonyms: Rhomalea auricornis, Taeniopoda pulchella |
Taeniopoda auricornis is known from eastern Mexico (southern Tamaulipas to Oaxaca) and Guatemala; up to 1,900 m (Map). This is a large species with golden-yellow antennae, prominent pronotal crest, and rose-red hindwings with black marginal bands. Males display the brightly-coloured wings from a prominent point. Although this species is capable of flight, it apparently rarely takes on the wing.
